Willson School

You've probably been here before.

You've probably witnessed Hoer's beautiful, on-stage performance,

...from the wooden chairs embellished with additional aliases.

You've probably wandered down the hallway, between the rows of lockers,

...and moseyed into your classroom, late as usual.

You better not let Principal Perch catch you!

(RIP Olando Coleman. 10.2.91 - 11.11.10)

You were probably too busy causing trouble in the stairwell,

...stealing the school's supplies,

...or getting high in the bathroom.

Did you even participate in class,

...or learn a single thing that I was teaching you?

You've probably been here before, but then again, haven't we all?

There is something so captivating about a school building where it almost becomes difficult to organize into words. We've all been here before. Before the strenuous jobs, the nicotine addictions, or the slowing social life. Before the dietary restrictions, the health insurance, or the house payments. Before all of the things that now burden us in our adult lives, we were here. Sitting in a chair. Learning.

You may not use nor even remember your algebra, but it's the authentic teachings and the atmosphere with which you were surrounded that truly made the difference. Did you know it then? Do you know it now?

Do you apply all of the knowledge that you have acquired? And do you use it to abundantly fill your life with happiness and sincerity? I sincerely hope you do.

  1. I just love your narrative with the photos, hat's off to you Jason. Also, how much fun would it be to do, like a kids school uniform photo shoot there?

    1. Thank you so much, Cierra! And yesss, I think that would be awesome. There are actually a few cheerleader outfits left in the girl's locker room, and some pompoms to boot. This might get interesting.
